Use AI responsibly

The AGH University Main Library offers access to tools designed to facilitate academic research, including commercial AI-based tools.

The AI tools available through the Library’s subscription are based exclusively on peer-reviewed content published by reputable publishers, which minimises the risk of hallucinations and misrepresentations. Please remember that you are the one who takes responsibility for the generated content and you are accountable for its accuracy.

AI tools available through the AGH University Main Library subscription

LeapSpace is an Elsevier product that combines ScienceDirect AI and Scopus AI technologies into a single, advanced tool, whilst also offering additional features.

The LeapSpace tool:

  • draws on over 18 million peer-reviewed articles and books published by Elsevier, as well as licensed articles available via subscription and open-access articles from other leading publishers (including Emerald Publishing, IOP Publishing, NEJM Group, Sage) and a collection of research abstracts from Scopus (over 100 million records, over 7,000 publishers),
  • empowers researchers by providing context, transparency and the ability to verify search results,
  • saves time, streamlines research design, strengthens collaboration and helps to deepen the analysis of scientific content,
  • ensures privacy and security – search queries are encrypted and will not be used to train large language models.

Key features:

  • A single, all-in-one assistant – generate ideas, plan projects, analyse the literature, find collaborators and search for grants – all within a single, secure workspace.
  • Trust cards – find out why a particular source has been cited and identify any contradictions in the research. This will help you assess the reliability of the available evidence.
  • Deep research – create detailed reports that highlight new trends, knowledge gaps and inconsistencies that traditional search engines usually overlook.
  • Grant search engine – gain access to 45,000 active and recurring funding opportunities from over 16,000 government and private organisations.
  • Reading Assistant – ask questions about specific articles and book chapters using the interactive text analysis feature.
  • Comparison feature – compare articles in a clear table format. The tool analyses each experiment, highlighting key aspects: objectives, methods and results.
  • Author search – find potential collaborators, mentors and experts in a given field, supporting the development of interdisciplinary research.

ScienceDirect AI is a tool based on generative artificial intelligence that is integrated into the ScienceDirect platform. ScienceDirect AI searches for information within the full texts of articles and book chapters available in the ScienceDirect database.

ScienceDirect AI features:

  • Natural language search. Users can ask questions in natural language, including in Polish. The tool processes the query and finds answers within the full texts of publications, providing richer context and more detailed information than traditional search engines.
  • Reading assistant. When working with an article or book chapter, an interactive assistant appears alongside the text. It allows you to ask additional questions, quickly summarise sections, and highlight and save key findings (more information about the reading assistant).
  • Comparing studies. ScienceDirect AI can extract the most important data from various publications and compile it into a clear table.
  • Full transparency and verifiability. Every answer generated by ScienceDirect AI includes citations and direct links to sources. The tool highlights the exact section of text on which the answer is based, making it easy to verify.

ScienceDirect AI is one of the main components of LeapSpace, an AI-powered research environment. LeapSpace is a comprehensive research platform, whilst ScienceDirect AI is a specialised module within it that supports literature analysis and accelerates the scientific review process. Thanks to this combination, researchers can find key research findings more quickly and work more efficiently with large collections of scientific publications. LeapSpace is a broader AI-powered research environment, designed to support researchers in searching for and analysing scientific literature.

In April 2026, the ScienceDirect AI tool was migrated to the LeapSpace environment. For researchers and students, this means the ability to use enhanced tools to support the search, analysis and organisation of scientific literature within a single system. Within LeapSpace, users can continue to utilise the features familiar from ScienceDirect AI, as well as benefit from additional analytical capabilities and integration with other academic resources.

The ScienceDirect AI tool received the 2025 CODIE Award for ‘Best generative AI solution’ for helping researchers work more effectively with peer-reviewed content and providing reliable, authoritative references.

Scopus AI (AI Discovery) is an intuitive and intelligent search tool based on generative artificial intelligence, which draws on abstracts recorded in the Scopus database.

By utilising machine learning algorithms, natural language processing and large language models, Scopus AI enhances the efficiency of searching, data analysis and the evaluation of research findings.

Scopus AI helps with:

  • searching for literature on a given topic,
  • quickly familiarising oneself with a new topic,
  • gaining a deeper understanding of and analysing a research issue,
  • explaining a complex problem to students,
  • establishing collaboration with other researchers,
  • identifying new hypotheses and research topics.

A query to Scopus AI can take the form of a traditional question in natural language (including Polish), a set of keywords, a text or an abstract.

To use the tool, simply access the Scopus database and select the Scopus AI tab.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is a service integrated into the Microsoft 365 suite, available under AGH University’s licence.

Copilot – an AI-powered assistant – helps users create documents, analyse data, plan tasks and communicate.
