  • The ACS programme allows publication without charge for authors of a certain number of articles accepted for publication in the current year. The number of articles is not divided into institutions, and articles are included in the programme in the order of their acceptance for publication (note: the Manuscript Acceptance Date sometimes referred to as Revised in articles is the deciding factor.
  • If the author selects OA publication, the system sends the information about the article to ICM, which verifies that the appropriate affiliation is given in the article and confirms the article's inclusion in the programme.
  • Publication of articles licenced under CC BY.
  • The program was closed by ACS on October 3, when the 437th article appeared in the system.
  • The program will be resumed in 2026 after the Ministry of Science and Higher Education grants funding for 2026 and after a new agreement with ACS for 2026-2028 is concluded, and will cover articles accepted for publication in 2026. The number of articles in 2026 will be approximately 470, but this depends on the final list of participants and the cost of the license. Articles published under a subscription model in ACS hybrid journals in 2026 before the program is launched may then be converted to an open model under the program ("retroactivation"). Authors who publish open articles at their own expense in ACS hybrid or open journals in 2026 before the program launches will not be eligible for reimbursement under the program (updated 22 December 2025).

  • Some journals charge additional fees, e.g. a fee for the number of pages (Page Charges), a fee for acceptance of the manuscript (Submission Fee) or for additional services that may be requested by the author (prints, printed colour drawings, etc.).
  • Articles publish under CC BY, CC BY NC ND licence and from March 2022, under CC BY NC licence. The author can choose the licence at his/her own choice, but it is worth mentioning that a CC BY licence is required under Plan S.
  • Information about an article submitted to the programme is sent by Elsevier to the local administrator at the institution (AGH Research Infrastructure Department), who, verifies that the author is affiliated with the institution.
  • The list of journals included in the programme under the national license is limited (list of titles).
  • Additional journals available under the programme for the AGH University of Krakow (list of titles).
  • The programme was launched with a pool of 1084 articles for 2025.

  • The programme will be resumed after the Ministry of Science and Higher Education grants funding for 2026 and a new agreement with Elsevier is signed. We hope that the resumption will take place in May 2026 at the latest, as was the case in 2025. Articles accepted for publication in 2026 after the agreement with Elsevier has been signed will be eligible for the program, regardless of the date on which the article was sent to the journal. The publisher does not provide for the possibility of retroactive publication of articles accepted for publication in 2026 before the launch of the programme (updated 22 December 2025).
