The aim of the project is to continue the creation and expansion of the ‘BazTech database of Polish technical journals’, which records and provides free online access to descriptions of articles from 767 Polish scientific and trade journals, as well as post-conference materials published by scientific units, scientific and research institutes, committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and scientific associations. The planned activities will contribute to the popularisation of scientific achievements and technical knowledge among the general public and the promotion of science. The project will be implemented on a nationwide scale in partnership with 22 institutions under the leadership of the leader and applicant – the Lublin University of Technology (PL). The main objective is to develop the BazTech database, i.e. to make information about publications in Polish technical journals widely available free of charge on the Internet, including the recording of citations and the provision of full texts of indexed articles, in accordance with copyright law. Project implementation: continuation of work carried out since 1998 and financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education programmes aimed at popularising science, including the latest ‘Database of the content of Polish technical journals’.

The project's outcomes will include: a product in the form of an expanded BazTech database, a long-term impact translating into better public awareness of scientific achievements in the field of technical sciences, and measurable results in 2024-2026: an increase of over 30000 article records in the database, the addition of bibliographies to approximately 19000 records from before 2005, the addition of affiliations to approximately 5700 records from before 2005, expansion of the collection of articles in the field of technical sciences published in the open model through negotiations with approx. 60 journal publishers, addition of DOI numbers in records and ORCID author identifiers, and addition of approx. 3000 PDF files with full texts to archival yearbooks. Thanks to the use of the open OAIPMH standard, data from BazTech is indexed by other services aggregating bibliographic and full-text resources, such as Google Scholar. Article records are provided with DOI numbers, giving users easy access to the electronic version of the article. Through these activities, the Consortium actively contributes to the development and promotion of Polish science. Disseminating the effects and results of the project involves activities aimed at attracting the interest of recipients in the possibilities of using the database and the benefits they can derive from the information it contains. The consortium will promote BazTech and disseminate the benefits of creating and using the database in its local environment, including by presenting relevant information on its own websites and in university newsletters. It will continue to maintain the BazTech database website (in Polish and English), run a Facebook profile, provide training and maintain direct contact with users, publishers and editors of scientific journals. BazTech editors are university employees, experienced librarians who conduct training sessions during which they have the opportunity to present the database, contributing to the growth of the information literacy of BazTech users.

Overall amount of the project: 67 673,69 PLN
Project completion date: Dec. 1, 2024-Jul. 31, 2026

The aim of the project is to disseminate scientific information about the historical collection of scripts, textbooks and teaching materials of professors of the AGH University in Krakow for the years 1919-1945, from the collections of the AGH University Main Library, and to make them available digitally, on computers in the reading rooms of the AGH University Main Library, on the intranet and open access via the AGH Repository, depending on the date of issue and copyright considerations.

The project will involve the digitisation of scripts, textbooks and teaching materials written by professors of the Academy between 1919 and 1945. The selection of objects for digitisation was based on their historical and scientific value, poor state of preservation, importance for the dissemination of science, and uniqueness in terms of publishing.

This collection, both as an ensemble of collections and as a collection of individual items, often valuable, bringing the history of technical education and scientific achievements in Poland between the wars and during World War II, is an important component of the national and European technical and scientific heritage.

The project will result in 41 digitised objects (number of scans: 7953) being made available digitally, presented on workstations in the reading rooms of the AGH University Main Library, the intranet and the AGH Repository on the DSpace platform.

The creation of a digital version of this unique collection and a copy of it, will complete the preservation of this scientific and cultural heritage, opening up opportunities for its popularisation, as part of the social responsibility of science.

National Program for the Development of Readership 2.0 for 2021-2025. OMNIS 2

The National Library and the Department of State Patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage have granted the AGH University Main Library's application for free implementation of the Alma library system and Primo search engine, within the framework of the multi-year program „National Program for the Development of Readership 2.0 for 2021-2025," Intervention Direction 1.2 Building a nationwide library network through an integrated library resource management system. This program is abbreviated as OMNIS 2.

Thus, the AGH University was included in the list of institutions recommended for the implementation of an integrated library resource management system. On May 18, 2023, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage approved the ranking list of libraries, included in the National Library Network (OSB), where the Alma system and Primo search engine will be implemented. The agreement between AGH University and the National Library was signed on June 5, 2023.

The system will be implemented comprehensively at the AGH University Main Library and all Branch Libraries. Working with the new system will ensure improved accessibility of scientific resources for AGH University employees and students, as well as better visibility of AGH University Main Library collections in Poland and around the world. The implementation of the new library system is scheduled for completion in November 2024. The cost of connecting the system will be borne by the National Library.

Alma system by ExLibris - part of Clarivate is a next-generation library system operating on the basis of a multitenant SaaS cloud service. The Alma library system, as well as the Primo search engine, are not installed on the servers of the individual libraries that use them. The data is stored in cloud computing on the servers of Ex Libris, the manufacturer of Alma. The system is focused on processes instead of document type, that is, where we can administer resources even more efficiently - whether we are talking about traditional, originally electronic (born digital) or digitized materials. The resources of each institution included in the system will be co-catalogued with the National Library. This means that they will be visible from the Common Catalogue of the National Library and other Polish libraries belonging to the Nationwide Library Network (OSB).

Subsidized by funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the implementation of the National Reading Development Program 2.0 for 2021-2025.
