GeoRef is an extensive database created by the American Geoscience Institute in 1966. The database contains over 4.7 million records from over 3,500 journals covering a wide range of geological literature. The database covers topics such as environmental protection, economic, environmental and engineering geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, petrology, palaeontology, marine geology, oceanography and mineralogy. In addition to journals, the database records books, maps, government reports, conference materials, and master's and doctoral theses. Over 100,000 records are added to the database each year. Descriptions of North American geology date from 1666 to the present day, while content relating to the rest of the world dates from 1933.

Subscribed to by the Library, the enriched full-text version of the GeoRef with Full Text database offers access to 424 active, full-text journals, including 396 peer-reviewed journals. 290 peer-reviewed journals are available in full text without embargo.
